In From The Cold Emergency Shelter

Established in the winter of 2000, In From The Cold (IFTC) was opened as a temporary winter overflow shelter to assist other shelters such as Dawn House, Harbour Light, Kingston Youth Shelter and Ryandale.  Due to demand for shelter beds, In From The Cold has operated on a year-round basis since July 2004 and is no longer considered an overflow shelter.

Located in the basement of the Housing Help Centre426 Barrie Street, it can house up to 24 people making it the largest shelter in the City of Kingston.  Those in need can secure a bed through the Housing Help Centre during the day or when the shelter opens in the evening.  There is a meal provided upon arriving as well as a breakfast is available prior to departing for the day.

In From The Cold operates from 8pm to 8am seven days a week.

IFTC continues to benefit from generous financial and in-kind support from government agencies, the United Way, concerned citizens, community organizations, local businesses and religious groups.

In January 2009, In From The Cold received support from the United Way serving Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington which allowed the shelter to increase its capacity with the purchase of nine bunk beds and new mattresses.
