Youth Services Program

Home Base Housing operates a transitional, supportive housing program designed specifically for youth between the ages of 16 and 24 years of age. Youth Services consists of five residential properties offering twenty-four beds for youth. Four of the five properties are part of the social housing portfolio operated by Home Base Housing. The fifth property represents an expansion of the program which occurred in 2003, adding 8 beds to the Youth Services program.

Youth Services offers a residential setting for youths as well as provides support services to assist them to become independent. The youth who are selected for the program voluntarily agree to work with a Community Support Worker to develop structured plans for school, employment or treatment. Youth Services provides an intensive life-skills program as well as individual and group counseling designed to quickly prepare the residents for their future beyond the program. Typically, youth graduate from our initial residence, Passage House, to the other houses in our program as they reach greater levels of responsibility, capability and independence. Passage House is a supportive, transitional living program with up to 24-hour support.

Youth Services meet approximately 94 youths each year through the delivery of their services and programs. Resident selection is based on a priority basis in order that youths who are in a dangerous or urgent situation can be accommodated as quickly as possible. In addition to providing housing, Youth Services also assists their clients to find permanent living arrangements. Our staff routinely follows up on those who have graduated from our program to ensure their successful independence. Youth Services hosts a monthly drop-in where all past residents are welcome to attend a meal and a social time at Passage House.
