Supportive Housing Program

Home Base Housing’s Supportive Housing program is an innovative and creative solution to Kingston’s homeless situation. With 19 properties under Home Base Housing’s management, the Supportive Housing program provides furnished, rent-geared-to-income housing for single adults, 16 years of age or older, who are in need of a home. The program assists chronically homeless individuals with finding suitable accommodations within our umbrella of housing possibilities. Those options include shared housing (private bedroom with shared common areas) and one-bedroom apartments within one of our two newest developments. Some units are wheelchair accessible.

Our services are free, flexible, non-judgmental and supportive to those who face various life challenges: financial issues, substance abuse, mental health issues, developmental disabilities, head injuries or physical disabilities. In addition, the Supportive Housing program has Community Support Workers who work closely with our clients to assist them with developing skills that will allow them to live independently. With the client’s approval, we welcome and encourage other professionals and family to become involved in the process. We also engage our tenants by organizing social outings, regular potluck dinners, community kitchens and a variety of other activities.

Our supportive services include:

  • Advocacy
  • Budgeting Skills
  • Life Skills
  • Problem Solving
  • Emotional Well-being
  • Mental Health Issues
  • Stress Management
  • Social Skills

Home Base Housing has an excellent track record in developing new housing-related initiatives and a good reputation of working with other agencies and community organizations to address client needs. We have the expertise, resources, and experience required to meet the challenge of developing and maintaining affordable housing in our community. We believe that when individuals are provided with a secure “home base”, they can begin addressing the issues which lead to the cycle of chronic homelessness. In addition to being the “right thing to do”, the Home Base Housing Board of Directors believe that the community will benefit through reduced demands on the current shelter system resulting in increased availability for funding for other important community service requirements.
